5 SEO Tricks to Have Your Website Rank on Google

It’s clear that every business owner aspires to have their website rank high on search engines, like Google.

Your website should be the hardest-working “employee” meaning that it should be converting visitors to paying customers, all while allowing you to be found as soon as someone searches up your type of business and services/products in search engines.

This blog posts covers our top 10 SEO tricks to have your website rank higher on Google. We may also be throwing in a sprinkle of non-related SEO tips that could help you and your business significantly near the end of this post!

Step One: Master Your Website’s Page Titles & Meta-descriptions

Each page on your website should be named appropriately, not by just the type of page, but your business type and name too. You should not over-complicate this or make it run-on. Focus on keywords that people would type in to find your business; we often don’t type anything long to find what we need.

Following this, each page should have meta-descriptions set up. This is usually 300 character limit that allows you to describe your business, services/product types, location, and more.

EXAMPLE:

Page Title: Services | Danielle LaBonté Designs | Toronto Graphic Designer

Meta-Description: Danielle LaBonté Designs is a Toronto-based graphic design studio working with clients on an international and local level. We offer services such as custom branding and website design and development, packaging design, book and editorial design, and Instagram styling. We encourage inquiries to view our services and pricing online, as well as inquire to receive a free 30 minute consultation call.

Step Two: Optimize Your Website’s Copy

This tends to get over-looked, but it’s not a step to overlook which is why it’s #2 on this list! Your website’s copy should be doing majority of the work. Working with a copywriter is well-worth it as it provides you with an advantage against your competitors.

Copywriters will work with you to develop all of the copy and verbiage to go onto each page of your website. They will help utilize key words and not over-complicate anything you’re looking to sell online. They will help you to speak directly to your target consumer.

HINT:

Ensure your copy is simple and not over-complicated. You want to inform your audience in an easy-to-understand manner. Be literal and guide your audience to understand what you do from the moment they land on your page and how to purchase or reach out.

HINT:

Go for low competition keywords. Generic terms often don’t rank that great because everyone and their dog uses them. Tools like Centori help you do this!

Step Three: Use Internal Links

You should always be utilizing call-to-actions (buttons) that will lead people to more pages on your website.

For example, if someone is on your Homepage and you want them to learn more about your services, have a button that guides them to a specific Services page. On that page and under that service, insert a button that will take them to your Contact page so they can inquire.

Internal links increase your click-rate, versus bounce rate. You want people to stay on your website longer, it helps you significantly with your search engine rankings.

Step Four: Name Your Images

We get it, this can be so tedious naming each and every image you have used on your website, but you’ll want to thank us later! Half of the time, people who are searching for something are looking for a visual. They might find you from an image as the images you use on your website often end up linked on the internet.

You won’t regret this and every single website platform allows you to re-name your images so it isn’t simply “IMG123.”

Step Five: Consider Starting a Blog

You heard this right, a blog! Blogging helps SEO by allowing you to target more keywords than you normally would through your main pages, as well as reinforcing other ranking factors such as fresh content, more backlinks, and a higher number of indexed pages. The more pages you acquire on your website, the better!

People are constantly searching and grazing the internet for help and suggestions. By starting a blog that offers content and tips, people are finding you who may not even thought about working with you before, but now love your work. You can also begin to monetize your blog over time, which equals passive income!
